This i think will be a fun one because i know people who love this website and people who hate it

So what's your opinion. Is facebook a good website?

I think facebook is a pretty bad site I like twitter even though I dont use it anymore xD

Facebook is a good website as it provides people a way to connect or reconnect with friends and family and maybe a few of you, strangers

Nonetheless it allows people to communicate together about the latest updates and have a good chat with your friends. Some may argue that it is just like Twitter or MySpace. However that doesn't make it any less useful or enjoyable to people.

The only issue that i really detest is Facebook rightfully owns any photos you decided to upload or any photos your friends upload and are free to use them however they like and may make a profit out of it

Other than that it is still a good website to use just like any other social networking website.

I still prefer twitter

And you are free to like Twitter better but that doesn't mean Facebook isn't good either.

look i agree with saad to an extent facebook is a good website but the point of the question was to have a wide range of other questions and answers i mean that is what a debate is.

So then in that case saad are you suggesting other websites are better and why are they better?

in my point of view fb bring everyone together in one place and is good for that perpose. it also makes chatting at long distances easier. However there is the photo problem and instant messages is not as mearly as intesting as video conferencing like when using skype

You people don't use facebook to connect with anyone. Just like any other social network, facebook is just another way to stalk your friends, play silly games (i.e. dress up dolls or build a farm -_-), and ultimately make society stupider, and of lesser individuality.
Plus you've got all the data being used against you. Universities and employers now look at your facebook profile (and facebook gives them account history information), to see how you behave.. that's also why you shouldn't put your real names online
In addition to this, you've got the fact that facebook supports some governments/people over others, and it's refusal to close down racist/hurtful groups makes facebook an engine that encourages such racist behavior.
I can also add that facebook is an utter and complete waste of time.

If you really wanted to "connect" with anyone, you'd get an IM or a VOiP like skype or google talk since it's a 1000X more intimate.

Yes but look at how many members there are on Facebook and compare the popularity of Facebook to other sites. Anyhow if you have many friends on Facebook you would probably be tempted to sign up as well.

Also ace, Skype is not a social network anyway so you can't compare it to Facebook. However Microsoft is planning on integrating Skype into Facebook to start video chat etc as Microsoft is a shareholder of Facebook.

About the university issue, it is true that as high as 20% of people have not been accepted to a certain university because of your history on Facebook. However if taken with care, Facebook will not harm your life.

Social networking is a waste of time and that is true, however the same argument can be used anywhere else so that can't just be designated as a criticism to Facebook.

If I'm using a website, I shouldn't be expected to take that much care (i.e. care that might end up ruining my life if not taken ), the internet is all about freedom of speech. Future employers+universities shouldn't criticize ME for what I think.

Ok yes it is very disappointing to see that they sell information to university's as that is an invasion of privacy.

I understand that there are other sites, however at the moment Facebook is still popular and used by many so i don't see the issue of this other than a few factors.

It may not be the 'best' site out there, but it is still enjoyable to be used by many and does provide a connection to those close to us and far from us.

again i don't see there being a problem in using facebook if done rightly and cafefully. Also my point was on the SKYPE matter was that video conferencing is much more fun and cooler. Also you can talk to multiple people like in real life.

Facebook is a corrupt site because of these issues for personal benefit and greed. Also it has many issues concerning "racist groups" However the question was, is Facebook a good website? Now the point of joining Facebook would be the interaction with friends. It may not be very social because you would be at home. Nonetheless many of us now use laptops very frequently and so still allows us to communicate about anything. Yes many other sites are the same concept, but Facebook is a website that almost everyone knows and uses, and so is very easy to find your friends.

Now the argument with Skype is different. It may be difficult to find your friends on Skype without one method of connection to find out their Skype name, therefore making it second to Facebook as an easy method of communication.

Facebook is still very popular in comparison to Google Buzz or MySpace etc. Therefore why is Facebook not an option to use? If it is like MySpace, so what? At the moment it is used by millions. That also doesn't mean you can't have both Facebook and Twitter or any other social networking account.

Ok that is true but if they are your friend then getting a skype name is not hard plus again it's more interesting to use it.

CS is a good site because it can give you info about stuff around you, Can maybe help you learn something and can persuade you to do something right.

Its inactive because nobody just goes on to google and types Cybershares randomly and a lot of us are too lazy to tell ppl about it xP

dude when you debate u can raise more question when there is a general one that why i asked also i think that by debating about this we can use our debate to implement idea to cs and make it better i think it will be a win win situation

I don't think facebook is a scam although its a bad website

Facebook steals private information and photos from you and your friends. They find out everything that you do and put on the site and even with the choice of deactivating your account, they know your name, hobbies, any information, how you talk, all your messages, all your conversations, all your photos, what you like and what you hate. Facebook knows exactly what type of person you are. Facebook is your identity and governments use this to track you down.

Just consider these ideas, truths or possible rumors as no one truly knows.

Scammers and hackers are crossing from MySpace to Facebook. Now the social network once named safe is infested with all of these scammers.



Also if you have heard there was a new 'dislike button' which you could enable by clicking on a link and following the steps. Now why would Facebook not integrate it by themselves? Because it was a SCAM

In conclusion Facebook is a dangerous site and may affect your real life if not taken with care, so you may think twice before you decide to post something on Facebook or like something inappropriate, etc etc.
